*Colorado Department of Education | Denver, CO*

Jesse Tang is currently a doctoral student at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, where he is pursuing his Ed.L.D. The son of immigrants from Hong Kong and Thailand, Jesse was inspired to enter the field of education due to the transformative impact K-12 education can have on students and their families. With over two decades of experience in the education sector, Jesse's career began as a classroom teacher on Chicago’s Southside. He then progressed to roles as Assistant Principal in both charter and traditional district schools before spending the last ten years as a Principal. During his tenure, he led significant initiatives, including founding Central Queens Academy, a middle school in Queens, NYC that serves multilingual learners; initiating Denver Online Elementary, a city-wide remote elementary program launched during the pandemic; and overseeing a community-driven turnaround at Schmitt Elementary in Southwest Denver.

Jesse's academic and professional endeavors focus on building diverse leadership pipelines in U.S. K-12 education, establishing support networks for new Principals to catalyze and sustain system-level transformation, and formalizing methods to elevate the voices of students, families, and educators in policy development at the district and state levels. He is deeply involved in educational leadership beyond his immediate professional work. Jesse is a member of the Editorial Board for the Harvard Education Review, a facilitator for the Public Education Leadership Project - a collaboration between the Harvard Graduate School of Education and Harvard Business School, a Presidential Public Service Fellow, an Ambach State Education Agency Fellow, a Superintendent Fellow at Watertown Public Schools, and a Launch Co-Chair for the Ed.L.D. program at Harvard.
