***Massachusetts’ New Statewide High School Graduation Requirement***

**José F. Oliva** is a doctoral student at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. This summer, he is supporting the Massachusetts Secretary of Education as the Commonwealth develops a new statewide high school graduation requirement.

Before attending Harvard, José served as the Chief of Staff for Guilford County Schools (GCS), the third-largest district in North Carolina, which has nearly 66,000 students and 10,000 staff members. In his role, he was responsible for the district’s strategy, strategic communications, philanthropy, and public affairs.

He has served on numerous boards and councils across the nonprofit, philanthropic, and government sectors. José holds a bachelor’s degree in economics and political science from Guilford College and a master’s degree in public affairs from Indiana University-Bloomington.
