Riya Sood is a third-year student at Harvard Law School. Since before starting her legal work, she has been a dedicated advocate for reproductive justice, voting rights, and gender equality, and she has continued these efforts at HLS. She strongly believes all these issues are closely related and hopes to build a career that bridges many civil rights issues through a racial and gender justice lens.

To that end, this summer she will be an intern with the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, which fights for racial justice nationwide through work in criminal justice reform, political participation, and more. During her internship, she will be providing litigation support and research across these issue areas.

At HLS, Riya is a co-President of the Alliance for Reproductive Justice, an Articles Editor for the Harvard Law Review, and a Resident Tutor at Leverett House. Since starting law school, she has served as a litigation intern with Planned Parenthood, a legal intern with the Office of the Associate Attorney General at the US Department of Justice, and a policy intern with the Boston Mayor’s Office.

Riya grew up in Brookfield, WI and graduated from Harvard College in 2020 with a BA in Statistics. Before starting law school, she did voter protection work for the Maine Democratic Party and was an Executive Coordinator at EMILYs List.
