Andrew is a fourth-year doctoral student in the English Department, where he has taught courses on revolution and empire. He focuses on law and literature in Reconstruction-era United States, with an interest in changing concepts of race and sexuality in relation to the federal bureaucracy. In addition to his teaching and research, Andrew works with labor unions on campus to advocate for workers. Prior to graduate school, he was a Teach for America corps member and a high school English teacher in Lake Village, AR, as well as a culture specialist for Teach for America’s Delta Institute. This past summer he returned to the Mississippi and Arkansas Delta to lead a program through the Freedom Project Network where eight doctoral students taught college-level seminars to Mississippi and Arkansas high school students.
