Allison Pao is a sophomore in Leverett House at Harvard College concentrating in Social Studies with a focus field in Education and Culture. This summer, she looks forward to gain classroom experience as a Teaching Fellow for the Breakthrough Collaborative chapter in Boston.
On campus, Allison is involved in several education-related organizations including Harvard Undergraduate Studies in Education (HUSE), Harvard Food Literacy Project (FLP), the Harvard Educational Studies Student Advisory Committee, and the Harvard Ed Portal Mentoring program. As a research assistant for the Democratic Knowledge Project on a team led by Professor Danielle Allen, she helps design lesson plans and teaching materials for a new 8th grade civics curriculum. As Co-Chair of International Projects for the Harvard College Social Enterprise Association (HCSEA), she led a volunteer trip of Harvard students last spring break to teach at the Beijing Dandelion School which serves the children of migrant workers. She spent this past summer interning at an international education NGO called Junior Achievement in Shanghai, China. She was also selected to be one of three student teachers for the inaugural Harvard Program for Scientifically-Inspired Leadership (PSIL) a five-day conference for high-school students in Imphal, India. Next semester, she looks forward to serving as a Peer Advising Fellow (PAF) to incoming Harvard freshman and as a Course Assistant for one of her favorite classes, USW35: Dilemmas of Equity and Excellence in K-12 Education.
Allison has lived in New York City, Nashville, Tennessee, and Basel, Switzerland. Allison loves listening to, playing, and talking about music of all genres, and therefore her second home, here at Harvard, is the Harvard radio station, WHRB, where she is currently the Co-Program Director.
