Conner Huey
Purpose. Dignity. Action | Seattle, WA
Conner Huey is a rising senior in Dunster House pursuing a joint concentration in Government and History with a secondary in European History, Politics, and Societies. Born and raised in a rural working-class Navy town in the Pacific Northwest, Conner is committed to advancing evidence-based welfare policymaking to strengthen democratic citizenship. At Harvard, Conner’s research examines various themes in democracy, from studying civil society through African American fraternal organizations in the 19th and 20th centuries, to democratic education in K-12 schools, to healthcare reform efforts. To this end, Conner’s curricular interests center around studying democracy, welfare politics, and how public policy can strengthen and undermine democratic citizenship. Through this work, Conner has previously been published in the Papers of the Military Historical Society of Massachusetts and the Proceedings of the Midwest Political Science Association. A cadet in the Army ROTC, Conner has interned for all three federal branches of government as a White House Intern with the Council on Environmental Quality, a U.S. House of Representatives intern with his U.S. Representative Derek Kilmer (WA-06), and most recently as an intern for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit. In his free time, Conner sings with the Harvard Glee Club, serves as one of the Co-Chairs of the Dunster House Committee, and volunteers with Scouting America as an International Ambassador.
Through the PPSF, Conner will work at Purpose. Dignity. Action (PDA) – a Seattle-based criminal justice nonprofit organization committed to advancing non-punitive, community-based solutions to public health and safety. In particular, Conner hopes to support policy development and programmatic efforts to help reintegrate formerly incarcerated and unhoused community members into society to in part to combat disparities in democratic participation.
