Eana X. Meng is training to become a historian of medicine and a primary care physician, as a MD-PhD candidate at Harvard Medical School and the Department of History of Science. She cares about documenting the lives of the everyday person who does not traditionally “make history,” believing that these stories offer a more relatable and usable blueprint for the healing of our nation. Her research has traced the histories of acupuncture usage by healthcare practitioners who were active in the civil rights movement and the legacies that emerge from them, which include an acupuncture protocol currently used globally for substance use and behavior health conditions. She also aspires to be a primary care doctor who practices integrative medicine. She is the recipient of the Paul & Daisy Soros 2023 Fellowship.

Eana’s grandmother was a Chinese medicine healer who believed in combining the best of various medicines in the pursuit of health and healing for all. Making this vision a reality is Eana’s life passion. Since 2022, she has worked with We Got Us, a nonprofit local organization in Boston committed to increasing access to health and wellness for the most marginalized communities. Through We Got Us, Eana founded the Small Steps Healing Project, named in honor of Dr. Tolbert Small, a physician she works closely with. The Small Steps Healing Project aims to make holistic healing accessible to all, by bringing safe and evidence-based practices such as acupuncture, acupressure, massage, reiki, sound healing, and more to local communities at no-cost. This summer, she will continue to scale the Small Steps Healing Project with weekly clinics and create scholarship and training opportunities for aspiring holistic healers.
