Project Title:

The Necessity of Public Defense – The Right to Counsel in the Criminal Justice System

Eunice Chae is a student, writer, and artist hailing from the deserts of Southern California. Currently a rising senior at Harvard College, Eunice studies Government with a secondary in East Asian Studies and has keen interests in U.S. history, the mechanisms of public policy, and constitutional and criminal law.

Eunice has previously interned at the American Enterprise Institute in Washington, D.C., working as part of the think tank’s executive team in the Office of the President. This summer, Eunice will join the Law Offices of the Public Defender in San Bernardino County – assisting attorneys and gaining direct experience in legal research, legal writing, and courtroom proceedings from the perspective of a public defender. She is honored and deeply grateful to have the support of both the Leonard D. Schaeffer Fellowship and the Harvard Presidential Public Service Fellowship for this important work in indigent defense.

On campus, Eunice is an editor for The Harvard Crimson and a Design Associate for The Harvard Undergraduate Law Review. She has also worked extensively as a student mentor, including as a Peer Concentration Counselor in the Department of Government and as a Peer Advising Fellow for the upcoming academic year.

In her free time, Eunice is an avid reader, physical media collector, and amateur film archivist who enjoys analyzing old movies, practicing animation, and listening to 1930-50s radio shows.
