Harry Shanmugam is a MD student at Harvard Medical School passionate about the policy decisions that shape patient experiences and outcomes. This summer, he will be working at MassHealth to evaluate and implement strategies to increase prescription drug affordability for vulnerable patients in Massachusetts, with a particular focus on cell and gene therapies and medications covered under the 340B program.

Prior to medical school, Harry was a mayoral appointee to Boston’s Ryan White Planning Council, where he chaired the committee responsible for the allocation of nearly $15 million in federal safety-net funding to medical and wraparound services for patients living with HIV. As part of this work, he represented the Boston Public Health Commission on the state’s Ending the HIV Epidemic Steering Committee. Harry has also worked for the Boston Consulting Group, serving hospital and public health department clients on a variety of issues, including challenges related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Harry grew up in Hopkinton, MA. He graduated summa cum laude from Boston College as a Gabelli Presidential Scholar with a degree in Management and Biology.
