Congresswoman Cindy Axne – legislative internship
Des Moines, Iowa

Sam Throm is a junior at Harvard College studying Government and French originally hailing from West Des Moines, Iowa. His interest in domestic policy and its applications began in his sophomore year while working with the Institute of Politics (IOP) on the Bipartisan Program for Newly Elected Members of Congress. Meeting the newly elected representatives inspired a desire to assist them in their work and led to his decision to spend this summer interning for his own newly elected congresswoman, Representative Cindy Axne in her Des Moines district office. In his spare time, Sam enjoys continuing to work at the IOP as a member of the Harvard Political Union and serving on Harvard’s nationally-ranked Intercollegiate Model United Nations Team. He also helps run the Harvard Model United Nations and Harvard National Model United Nations conferences in Boston. This past summer he worked in the United Kingdom’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office in London as a part of the Economics Unit through the IOP’s Director’s Internship Program, where he worked in helping analyze global politics from the perspective of the British government. He is a proud resident of Kirkland House and spends far too much time in the dining hall talking with friends when he should probably be working in the library.
