Tanya Vidhun
The Wellness Center at Los Angeles General Medical Center | Los Angeles, California
Tanya Vidhun is a rising junior at Harvard College, from Yorba Linda, California, and is studying Human Developmental and Regenerative Biology and Economics. She cares deeply about healthcare access, women’s equality, and the intersection of the two. What she finds most meaningful about healthcare is working directly with individuals, hearing their stories, and best addressing their needs.
Tanya’s interest in community advocacy and organizing began in high school through Girl Up, a women’s empowerment organization, where she brought chapters across Southern California together to drive collective action.
Coming to Harvard, she joined Boston Area Rape Crisis Center where she serves as a crisis counselor for the 24/7 hotline. Tanya also serves as president of Harvard’s chapter of Kidney Disease Screening and Awareness Program (KDSAP), organizing free kidney disease screenings in underserved communities in the greater Boston area.
This summer, Tanya is excited to return home to Los Angeles and give back to the community that shaped her through her work at The Wellness Center at Los Angeles General Medical Center. The Wellness Center works closely with non-profit partners to provide comprehensive health and wellness services. The Wellness Center also serves a predominantly Spanish-speaking population whose cultural traditions reflect the unique identity and diversity of Los Angeles. Tanya looks forward to gaining a deeper understanding of this community-centered and culturally-responsive model of care. She will work to support medical insurance enrollment services, domestic violence awareness efforts, women’s support groups, and a Community Public Health Teams initiative aimed at connecting individuals to care at the household level.
